Brian Lewicki (Our Dearest Friend and Founder)
Brian Lewicki passed away on October 17, 2018, after a battle with cancer. As one of the founding partners, Brian was an integral part of the formation and success of Leakey & Lewicki Ltd. Not only was Brian our colleague, he was a part of our family. He had many long-standing personal relationships with clients and truly cherished the time he spent getting to know them. Brian was an outstanding person and a loyal friend. He will be greatly missed by all.
Spencer Leakey, CPA, CA, CPA (Illinois)

Spencer began his career in public practice after earning his BBA degree from Vancouver Island University in 2009. After completing the Chartered Accountants School of Business, Spencer was admitted into the BC Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2012. Shortly after, Spencer passed the International Qualification Exam to become a US Certified Public Accountant, licensed through Illinois, and is a licensed US tax return preparer. In addition, Spencer is a Certified Acceptance Agent who can assist US taxpayers in obtaining a US Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN).
Born and raised in Port Alberni, Spencer now enjoys living in Nanaimo and working closely with our clients to help them achieve their goals. Spencer focuses on tax planning and preparation of Canadian and US personal and corporate tax returns while providing accuracy and efficiency.
In his spare time, Spencer enjoys hockey, curling and golfing. He also spends time camping and exploring the beautiful outdoors of Vancouver Island.
Andrew Dunbar, CPA
Partner
Andrew has been with Leakey & Lewicki Ltd. since 2015 and became a partner in the firm on September 1, 2018.
Andrew was born and raised on Vancouver Island where he attended Vancouver Island University and Camosun College. He has a broad range of experience including Canadian corporate and personal tax planning, assurance engagements, US taxation, and cross-border taxation.
Andrew enjoys helping our clients navigate the ever-changing tax laws to achieve their financial goals in a tax-compliant and tax-efficient manner.
Irene P. Sandri, CPA, CGA
Senior Accountant
Irene has worked in public practice in Nanaimo for over 30 years.
Irene has in-depth knowledge in all areas of personal income tax and also has experience in the preparation of deceased and estate returns.
Irene assists owner-managed small to medium size businesses in a diverse range of industries. This includes providing corporate clients with financial statements, corporate income tax returns, and personal tax planning for business owners and individuals.
She attends professional development courses that enhance her knowledge. Irene works diligently and strives to achieve a high standard of service for our clients.
Ruth Dougan, CPA, CA
Senior Accountant
Ruth is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) who earned her designation in 1988. Ruth spent time working in industry before returning to public practice where she melds her technical skills in accounting and tax with her business skills derived from her time in industry. Most recently as a Senior Manager at Grant Thornton, a National accounting firm, Ruth helped provide solutions to clients in the construction, manufacturing, retail, real estate and professional services industries.
Ruth’s objectives are to add unique value to her client’s owner-managed businesses through the application of her extensive business experience, particularly in the areas of tax, accounting, consulting, and corporate and personal tax planning, so they can achieve their financial goals.
Shannon van Herwaarden, CPA, CGA
Senior Accountant
Shannon graduated from Vancouver Island University with a BBA degree in 2010 and earned her Certified General Accounting designation in 2014.
Shannon has worked in local accounting firms and in Alberta since 2009. She has experience in preparing corporate financial statements and tax returns, personal tax returns, deceased and estate returns, and tax planning. She strives to help clients minimize their taxes while being tax-compliant.
Tasha Anderson
Accountant
Tasha graduated from the Applied Business Technology Accounting Assistant certificate program at Vancouver Island University in 2012 and has been working at local accounting firms in Nanaimo ever since.
Tasha primarily works in the area of Canadian and US personal tax preparation, corporate year-end preparation and also assists with bookkeeping and payroll.
Lynne Winkler, BBA-Accounting
Office Manager
Lynne earned her BBA degree from Vancouver Island University in 2010 while working at a local Nanaimo accounting firm. Since then, she has worked in public accounting, as well as in industry, performing marketing and administrative functions; preparing Canadian & US personal income tax, corporate tax, NTR financial statements, bookkeeping, and payroll.
Lynne currently manages our bookkeeping and payroll services as well as the administrative processes in the office. She also provides support preparing Canadian and US personal tax returns during our busy tax season.
Susan Harris
Administrator
Susan joined the Leakey & Lewicki Ltd. team in 2017 and oversees all the administrative functions in the office. Susan brings excellent customer service and a friendly approach to all the clients.
